Finishing The Spatula

Applying an oil finish is not essential, but it does bring out the colour of the wood and helps to maintain appearance.

To do so, use a clean rag and a food safe vegetable or nut oil. Wipe on the oil, leave to absorb and wipe off the excess. Re-apply periodically for appearance if desired.

If you decide not to oil, wipe the spatula with a damp cloth and allow it to fully dry. This will raise the grain so you can give the spatula another light sand using 240 grit sandpaper. Doing this prevents the grain from raising again in future uses. However, it will naturally take in some of the oils and juices from the foods when cooking.
