How to Make a Mortise and Tenon
The mortise and tenon is a strong joint that can withstand all kinds of stresses and strains to support and uphold structures. It is used in furniture making to make chairs, tables, beds, and much more besides.
Required Materials
To make a mortise and tenon, you will need:
- 2 x pieces of wood (of the same cross section) approximately 1 ½” (38mm) x1 ½” (38mm) x 6” (152mm) long
- Pencil
- Square
- Combination Gauge
- Chisel 1/2” (13mm)
- Chisel Hammer
- Knife
- Tenon Saw
- Router plane (optional)
