Laying Out

With your boards checked for square, lay out the groove across the grain, somewhere not too close to the ends. Begin by making a pencil line with a square, and then bring in the other board (shelf piece) right up against your square. Mark along the other side of this piece with a pencil. These are now the approximate positions of the walls of the recess.
