Choosing The Arrangement Of The Parts

As with any project, you must first decide on the orientation of each piece and its relative positions in the whole. Select the best faces and arrange them so that they will be on show in the finished piece. Hold them against each other and choose the faces which are closest in colour. If one face has a knot, it is best to place that where it won’t be too exposed, but some knots do add an interesting touch if used carefully.

Once you have selected the position of each piece, mark the parts so that you will clearly tell which part goes where. Paul brings parallel parts together (like the top and bottom pieces) and traces a triangle on the front edges so that the shape can only come together one way. Do the same for the two side pieces.
